Gift cards: a real payment method in Shopware

A gift card is processed as a payment in Shopware. It does not artificially reduce product prices: the basket and order retain the amount actually paid by each card.

This distinction lets customers combine gift card payment with commercial promotions, then with available Shopware payment methods for the remaining amount.

Customers add one or more cards. Each card balance is used without exceeding its available amount: a card already used in store or online can therefore pay only its remaining balance.

If cards do not cover the full order, customers complete it with a bank card or another native Shopware payment method. If they cover everything, the order can be completed using gift cards only.

As soon as a code is checked, customers receive a message confirming whether the card can be used, showing its balance or explaining why it was declined. The check relies on the configured gift card provider.

At payment, the system reserves the amount, captures it, releases it if cancelled or refunds it according to order stages. Adding a code alone therefore does not confirm payment.

FroggShop can work with self-hosted cards or with a provider developed to connect directly to the client information system. This provider checks balances and runs payment operations in real time.

The same card can therefore be used in store and online: remaining balance is requested from the system that manages the card before every use. The foundation is designed to support a provider specific to each client.

Gift card sales and personalisation connect to tailored product display. Merchants can offer a card product with several amounts, such as 50 or 100 euros, then request useful information through a form.

The sales journey, issuance, delivery to the recipient, currencies, expiry and refund rules must be defined with the provider and card management system.
